History

-The Mu Alpha Theta National High School and Junior College Mathematics Club was founded in 1957 by Dr. and Mrs. Richard V. Andree at the University of Oklahoma. In his words, Mu Alpha Theta is "an organization dedicated to promoting scholarship in mathematics and establishing math as an integral part of high school and junior college education." Mary Rhein Mary Rhein, a mathematics teacher in the Lakota School District for 26 years passed away of Ovarian Cancer on July 16, 2005. The spring break before her death, she took a trip to California where, using a digital camera for the first time, she took a series of photographs. These photographs are being sold as a fundraiser for the Mary Rhein Scholarship Foundation and Lakota West Mu Alpha Theta. This foundation provides scholarships and monetary assistance to Lakota West Math Students who excel in the area of mathematics and demonstrate a willingness to help others to master and enjoy mathematics.
